ECB's Coeure: Inflation to stay below target for a long time
FXStreet (Barcelona) - Speaking in Frankfurt on Tuesday European Central Bank Executive Board member Benoit Coeure said that even though Eurozone recovery was progressing at a slow pace the central bank has already exited emergency mode. Still, he added that the inflation target was not expected to be reached for a long time.
Coeure commented on the ongoing Asset Quality Review of European banks, suggesting that after it was finalized, the European banking sector would be able to become more closely integrated.
As for the ABS plan, the development of which ECB signaled at last week's monetary policy meeting, it would be established in cooperation with other institutions, Coeure said, adding that the central bank couldn't take on too much risk on its own. He added that the decision whether to buy ABS would be made in the nearest future.
